6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman was one of those in attendance at Fiserv Forum Wednesday night for the first GOP Presidential debate.
During an interview with Seehafer News at the Manitowoc County Fair Thursday night, we asked the Republican representative for his impressions of those on stage.
“I think all eight people on the stage had good minutes and all 8 had bad minutes,” he said. “I guess if I had to label a winner it would be Ron DeSantis because he can point to things he’s already done as governor of (Florida), the third biggest state in the country.”
He also noted that wasn’t pleased with Vivek Ramaswamy.
Grothman recalled him saying that “Everybody else on the stage was bought and paid for, words to that effect. And that’s obviously ridiculous.”
As for Ron DeSantis, Grothman said, “I went there kind of hoping for the best and I think he did win the debate. I think when he equivocated on whether or not (former Vice President) Mike Pence should have approved the electoral college (results) I thought it didn’t look very presidential. He should’ve just said yes, Mike Pence did the right thing.”
As for former President Trump’s decision to skip the debate, Grothman said he thinks the GOP frontrunner in the polls “made a mistake not showing up because it gave eight other people a chance to highlight themselves. Plus, I think his email entering the debate was again not very presidential, and he kind of ridiculed the other candidates.”
