Manitowoc Lincoln Volleyball is up and running again this season, with a handful of returning varsity players to lead the team. As Seehafer News spoke with head Volleyball coach Mary Beth Dixon, we learned more about who we will see on the team this year.
“We return six seniors, and then all the rest are new to the varsity,” she explained. “I think we’re at seventy, maybe sixty-seven girls total, so what actually has been happening, or last week anyway, our varsity kids were helping out with some our younger teams.”
Although there are a lot of returning players, there are some new players who are learning the ropes, including how they may work with the rest of the team.
It appears they had a head start this season as Dixon tells Seehafer News, “They played all summer together, at various leagues and tournaments. You know Saturday I think was kind of the start, its working different rotations, different lineups, I thought it went well.”
Lincoln Volleyball has a talented Freshman class this year, with two girls playing at the varsity level alongside the upperclassmen, although Coach Dixon is excited about a few others as well.
“We have four or five freshmen that will play on JV1 as well,” she noted. “So that’s exciting to see how those young girls connect with the sophomores and or juniors and seniors which I’ve seen great things so far, so that’s really exciting to see as well.”
The Ships are 2-0 and their next match will be on September 5th against De Pere.
