A natural gas leak was discovered yesterday afternoon on Manitowoc’s northside.
It occurred about 2:30 p.m on North 18th Street just south of Waldo Boulevard when a contractor was doing borings for fiber optic lines and the leak was noted when bringing the drill head back.
Fire Chief Todd Blaser said personnel shut down northbound traffic as a precaution and checked nearby houses for any concerns of a natural gas smell inside any of the residences.
Blaser explained that a Wisconsin Public Service crew was able to clamp off the gas leak and perform the needed repairs.
Officials were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
