For the last thirty years, the FORWARD Endowment from Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Association has been giving money for projects that help nature.
FORWARD or Friends of Resources, Wildlife, and Recreational Development started in 1993 with a $53,000 estate gift that grew to $700,000.
Treasurer Dean Halverson says the group never really talks about the trust, but thirty years is something special.
“We’re so fortunate here in Manitowoc County in that we have a lot of people willing to roll up their sleeves and help get things done,” he told Seehafer News. “Sometimes that means you don’t kind of recognize all of that and then you get to a certain point and you look back and your like oh my god it’s been 30 years.”
But there have been some challenges. Halverson says the group used to get some great partnerships with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, but they haven’t been as good.
But the organization is optimistic about helping the county stay special like it’s always been.
The group is looking for more young people to join because other associations have gone away because of old age.
