The Green Bay Office of the American Red Cross has announced it is experiencing a national blood shortage.
Fewer donors than needed gave the gift of life this summer, drawing down the national blood supply and reducing distributions of some of the most in demand blood types to hospitals.
Hurricane Idalia further strained the supply with blood drive cancellations and reduced blood and platelet donations in affected areas.
Donors of all blood types are urgently needed.
Lakeshore residents who qualify can roll up their sleeves and donate at a pair of blood drives this week.
They are being held today from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Denmark at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (435 Wisconsin Avenue) and this Thursday between noon and 4:00 p.m. in Manitowoc at Shoreline Credit Union (4400 Calumet Avenue).
To schedule an appointment to give, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
In thanks for helping rebuild the blood supply, all who come to give between now and September 18th will receive a limited-edition Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
