Studebaker enthusiasts come from all over the world every year for the International Drivers Club meet.
WOMT News spoke with some owners from out of state about their vehicles and about why they love the brand.
Bob McIntosh from New Jersey rebuilt a Studebaker truck he found.
He says he didn’t recognize what kind of truck it was at first.
“So I went across the street, and I saw it said Studebaker, he explains. My aunt and uncle in Kingston, Ontario always had Studebakers and I thought to myself, Studebaker makes trucks. And that’s how little I knew about the brand.”
He says he spent the last 12-14 years working on the truck, fixing running boards and reupholstering the inside.
Deanna Manley from Iowa restored a 1932 Studebaker to what it would have looked like back then.
She has been able to drive the vehicle around Manitowoc, but she brought the vehicle on the trailer.
“We acquired this through a car magazine one ad,” she says. We enjoy it although it’s not like driving a modern car obviously, but it’s very enjoyable.”
The drivers we spoke with had a great time and were very happy with how the event turned out. That includes Glenn and Nancy Johnson from Ohio.
“The whole setup is great,” Glenn says. We just staying over here at a hotel and very close. The fairgrounds are wonderful. The people of Manitowoc are super friendly. We were very impressed with the parade and how many people came out.”
Owners say the Studebaker community is very friendly and it’s great to talk to everyone.
The public got the chance to see the Studebakers for themselves earlier today during the final day of the meet.
