Legislation proposed at the Wisconsin Capitol aims to prohibit medical procedures and drug treatments for children seeking gender-affirming care.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, alongside several other Republicans, unveiled this proposal, which seeks to outlaw surgical interventions leading to sterilization, mastectomies, the use of puberty-blocking drugs, and other hormone therapies for minors.
Vos emphasized that “our children should not be used as experiments” and urged parents not to feel coerced or frightened into pursuing non-medically necessary treatments for their kids.
In response to this legislative effort, the Assembly’s LGBTQ+ Caucus condemned the proposal as inherently harsh, asserting that it attempts to insert lawmakers into decisions that are ideally left in the hands of parents, children, and medical professionals.
