The Wisconsin National Army Guard Armory in Appleton has been expanded. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the $15 million renovation.
The 18-month construction project doubled the floor space.
It also addresses critical needs such as increasing storage, training resources, parking, and administrative offices.
While parts of the old armory remain, the entire floor plan is new, and all of the interior of the armory is also new.
The 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment of the Wisconsin National Army Guard, and 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are headquartered at the armory.
The unit traces its lineage back to the Iron Brigade of the Civil War, and took part in the Spanish-American War, World War 1 and World War II, The Berlin Crisis, and the Global War on Terror.
