21-year-old Joshua Walcott has been found guilty by a jury in the shooting and killing of Malachi Moore at a home on 28th Street in Two Rivers in May 2021.
During closing arguments, Manitowoc County District Attorney Jackie Lebre says it was the witnesses who were staying at the house that knew what happened.
She says the four witnesses heard a pop, then a thud, and then saw Walcott walk out of a bedroom with a gun in his hand but feeling terrible about what he just did saying he just shot his brother.
She says Walcott would later bury the gun after sneaking out a backdoor of the TR home with a man named Rodney Anderson and then drove to a home in Manitowoc with another person at the wheel.
Walcott’s Attorney Matt Last claimed that the only other direct witness to the crime was Rodney Anderson. He says Anderson knew who shot Moore and was an unreliable witness because he lied about who shot Moore in the first place.
Testimony showed that Anderson lied when he was telling 911 about what happened saying a man in a red sweatshirt came in and shot Moore.
Anderson would later tell the police what actually happened.
Last also tried to question the four other witnesses because he said they didn’t see the shooting happen.
Walcott would be arrested the next day at the Manitowoc home.
Jurors also found Walcott guilty of four other charges including bail jumping, possession of a weapon, and two counts of 2nd-degree sexual assault.
Walcott will be sentenced on December 11th.
He faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
