Ecological restoration efforts are scheduled to begin this week within portions of Lower Henry Schuette Park in Manitowoc.
Dan Koski, Director of Public Infrastructure in the city, explains that Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. will be applying an herbicide application to invasive species in the park, starting today.
Areas that are treated will be identified with signs and parkgoers should avoid these areas until the signs are removed.
Koski said treatments should not affect standard park activities.
The work is part of a multi-year grant-funded project focusing on removing invasive plants, establishing and maintaining appropriate native plant communities, and improving public access to the unique natural features of Lower Henry Schuette Park.
The city is also collaborating on this project with Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, Friends of Manitowoc River Watershed, and Glacierland Resource Conservation & Development.
