Brackets have been determined for this week’s WIAA Girls State Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison.
Manitowoc Lincoln senior Olivia Minikel drew the #1 seed in the Division-1 Singles bracket at Nielsen Indoor Stadium.
Minikel, who sports a 29-0 record, has earned a first round bye in the tournament which gets underway Thursday morning at 10:30.
Olivia faces the winner of Ashwaubenon’s Jordan Domnick and Wausau West’s Lilly Wittwer at 3:30 that afternoon.
Ships sophomore Jordin Popp, 27-and-2, goes up against Eliza Martin of Monona Grove in a matchup of special qualifiers Thursday at 10:30.
In a rarity, Minikel and Popp could conceivably meet one another in the 3rd round friday morning.
Lincoln’s #1 Doubles team of Taylor Peterson and Zylia Kleinfeldt, 19-and-2, and a special qualifier play Notre Dame’s Mary Sullivan and Sophie Lin, 23-and-1, do-battle Thursday afternoon at 2:00.
In the Division-2 portion of the state tournament, Roncalli’s Doubles tandem of Madison and Megan Lamers, 16-and-4, face off with Christa Borchardt and Carolyn Gorzek of New Berlin West, 20-and-5, at 7:15 p.m.
Also of area interest, Kohler’s Sophia Torke and Grace Villwock received the 2 seed in the Doubles bracket.
