Recent Wisconsin Public School standardized test scores show improvement, but it’s not as good as it was before the pandemic.
That includes the Manitowoc Public School District. English, Literature, and Arts plus math scores, which are below the statewide average for students in grades 3 through 11.
The biggest gap in the district according to Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction data is ACT proficiency in grade 11 math.
The state average is around 27% of students being proficient.
In Manitowoc, that number is at 13%.
District administrators say during the 2022-23 testing period, students were coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a reason they are lower than average.
There is also a large gap in math in grades 3 through 8 with the state average being 41% and students in Manitowoc being at about 30%.
The Two Rivers is also dealing with lower averages in math, but grade 11 students are at the state average for ELA.
Kiel High School students are above average in standardized testing but students in grades 3-10 are still below the state average.
