The Salvation Army of Manitowoc County isn’t getting as many donations for its food pantry.
Salvation Army Captain Jenny Moffitt says during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization got a lot of extra food from the federal government to get food.
But now that the pandemic is over, they aren’t getting as much food, and they don’t last as long as they used to.
“So we end up having shelves that were a little less full than they were just a couple of years ago,” she describes. “We’re always in need so if you want to donate food to our food pantry or money to our food pantry. The organization we work with allows us to get whole sale prices instead of retail prices on food.”
Just this year alone, Moffitt says the organization has spent $20,000 on food to keep the pantry operational which is double the amount they’ve spent in the past.
She says right now nonperishable food items needed are soups, cereal, peanut butter, and jelly, spices, and pasta sauces.
Money can be donated at CentralUSA.SalvationArmy.org/Manitowoc.
