Today is Veterans Day, but an early ceremony and breakfast with veterans and their families was held at Two Rivers High School on Friday.
Retired Air Force Tech Sgt. P.J Stevens says she helped set up the event because it’s important to decide to get veterans to understand that people care about them.
As a military member herself she explains that “We gave an oath to our country and that oath means that it never expires. It means that we give back to our country every day. And on this day is the day they can say thank you to us.”
Addyson Treptow-Robinson helped volunteer at yesterday’s (November 10th) event because Veterans Day is very important to a lot of not only to veterans themselves but also to the families of those veterans.
“And I just think this day is very important in general,” she says. “These people went through all this stuff for us, and I think it’s important to realize that.”
Volunteer Caitlyn Dickenson says although there are no veterans in her family, seeing everyone showing up made her very happy.
“They’re time that they took out of not seeing their family for months on months and I’m just glad they’re here,” she described.
Other schools around Manitowoc County including Kiel, Reedsville, Roncalli, and Mishicot also had ceremonies in honor of Veterans Day.
