It will cost about $40 million to run the city of Two Rivers in 2024.
The common council got an update about the proposed budget from City Manager Greg Buckley during their work session meeting Monday night (November 27th).
He says the budget includes a $12.2 million general fund but some of the money goes toward two new positions including a public works maintenance person and a Geographic Information System (GIS) coordinator.
Council Member Darla LeClair had some questions wondering if the job should be included when the city already contracts the job out.
Same with Council President Adam Wachowski
“Is it a position we can do without going forward, I think the answer to that is yes,” he commented. “I think it’s more of a want than it is a need for us to do basic operations in the city. I think we should look for a firm that can do this because I don’t see this being that big of a full-time position’s years out.”
The city is expected to borrow about $1.8 million for projects including walkway work at the West River Lofts site, the Confluence Apartment project on the East Twin River, the Woodland Industrial Project, and Washington St. pedestrian bridge improvements.
Buckley also says the budget includes a $5.7 million tax levy with a big tax rate increase in the Two Rivers Public School District because of referendum projects voters approved in previous elections.
That means residents could see an average property tax increase of about 5.7%.
The budget is expected to be approved at the city’s first common council meeting on December 4th.
