A local organization that helps groups like AA and drug prevention wants to build a bigger building.
The Alano Society of Manitowoc County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families seek recovery and let them do it in a secure, clean, and positive environment.
But their current building is getting outdated, and they are starting a capital fundraising campaign to build a new one.
Executive Director Del Nason voiced some of the problems to the Two Rivers City Council on Monday (December 4th).
“The building lacks ADA compliance,” he explained. “It makes it very difficult for those with handicaps and physical challenges to be able to fully participate in our meetings and programs. Additionally, the plumbing in the building is beyond repair. It has numerous problems and needs continuous maintenance.”
He says a quote for an elevator to update the building to be ADA-compliant was estimated at $900,000.
But for about $1.5 million, a brand-new building would allow the group to be able to accommodate more people.
City Manager Greg Buckley says someone in many people’s lives has been affected by dependency issues.
He says there are a lot of needs here, and we are here about how the needs aren’t being met, but here is a case where they are being met, and working as a community, we can make a difference.
Nason tells Seehafer News that the group isn’t doing any major fundraising events right now, but the group is ready to collect donations for the new building.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so at AlanoSocietyMTW.org, or you can find more information on their Facebook page.
