Two Rivers Police Department’s Therapy Dog is already starting to take on the role, even though she’s still being trained.
Police Chief Ben Meinnert says right now, Daisy has five different handlers who can take her anywhere she’s needed.
Meinnert says out of every police officer on the force, she has the busiest schedule.
“She goes with our detective or one of our lieutenants,” he explains. “It kind of just depends. Last night (December 12th), she was with an officer swimming for the night, and she was having a blast.”
When she’s fully trained, Daisy will help other police officers who are dealing with trauma or if someone is a victim of a sensitive crime.
She would also be able to help people in times of crisis 24/7.
“That was she does throughout the state,” he described. “In those are times unfortunately where an officer would go down as is needed (to get help) in the state.”
She was donated through a partnership with the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Death Response Team.
Meinnert says when she’s not working, she’s waiting in front of his office door to get some attention.
