Four candidates have recently filed nomination papers to run for a seat on The Manitowoc Common Council this spring.
City Clerk Mackenzie Reed tells Seehafer News that Daniel Heilman has turned in papers to run in District Four against longtime incumbent Jim Brey.
William Debaets in District Five will challenge Darian Kaderabek, Bradley Barnes in District Eight will challenge Bill Schlei, and Brett Norell is seeking a two-year term in District Nine, where Steve Czekala has also filed nomination papers to retain his seat.
To be eligible to run for office in Manitowoc, you must be 18 years of age, an Elector/ Resident of The City of Manitowoc, and must reside in the district which you intend to represent.
Incumbents not seeking re-election must file a Notification of Noncandidacy.
Candidates must collect a minimum of 20, but no more than 40 signatures of qualified electors within their district, and nomination papers must be handed in no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 2nd.
A primary, if needed, will be held on February 20th, 2024, and The Spring Election will be on April 2, 2024.
All forms can be obtained from The City Clerkâs Office at 900 Quay Street in Manitowoc.
The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
