The Manitowoc Public School District has announced who will be the next head football coach at Lincoln High, and they didn’t have to look very far.
Former Green Bay Packers Offensive Lineman Evan Smith has been tasked with the job, pending the Board of Education’s approval on January 9th. Smith is familiar with the program, as he was hired to coach the O-line this past season.
He told Seehafer News that he saw major potential in the team.
“I thought toward the end of the season…we started showing more improvement, more tenacity,” he said. “Guys really started kinda figuring out ‘Hey, I can really get behind this.”
Smith said his goal is to bring Ships football back to championship form but also to create the next batch of leaders.
“When I say leaders, I’m not saying they have to be a Captain. Anyone can lead in any situation,” Smith explained. “Whether it be opening up a door and helping someone out, walking the dog, whatever. Leadership is a broad stroke of the brush.”
Smith knows how important Lincoln football is to many in the community, and he says, “I want Manitowoc Lincoln Football to be a source of pride for the school and community by building a culture of excellence.”
He has also joined the Seehafer Broadcasting team, as he will be co-hosting a podcast on SeehaferNews.com with Ryan Brahm, which will start up sometime next year.
