Since a three-fourths majority couldn’t pass a resolution to borrow $7.5 million for the Manitowoc County Courthouse Dome Project, all that can be done now is wait.
That’s according to County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer who says the board will have to come to a consensus to get the funding passed.
One thing the county could do is add a sales tax, but Ziegelbauer says, “The sales tax would be the highest tax increase in Manitowoc County history,” he explained. “I’m absolutely opposed to that.”
He says other supervisors want to hold back on the full project and scale it back by not doing the dome repairs but just doing the HVAC and roof repairs.
Ziegelbauer says he wasn’t surprised that the vote was close. He says there will be committee meetings in January where this topic can be brought up again.
