The National Center for Disease Control says we are currently in the midst of the cold and flu season.
According to the CDC, seasonal viruses are detected year-round but are most prevalent during the fall and winter, with peak activity occurring between December and February.
Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the timing and duration of the flu activity has been less predictable.
Personal health consultant Dr. Ken Redcross also notes that it is important not to overuse antibiotics.
“Antibiotics work by attaching to the cell wall,” he explained. “The key here is that cell walls are only present on bacteria, not viruses. So therefore there’s nothing on the virus for the antibiotic to attach to and it does not work.”
Over the past 40 years flu activity has peaked most often in February, followed by December, January and March.
