The Manitowoc County Health Department is encouraging residents to test for radon.
About one in every ten homes in Wisconsin has high radon levels.
Any home, whether old or new, can have radon, and because you cannot sense it, you must test for it.
Short-term “easy-to-use” radon test kits are available for $7 from the Manitowoc County Health Department at 1028 S. 9th Street in Manitowoc, which includes the analysis of the test.
Mail-order test kits are also available for $8. If elevated radon levels are found, there are over 100 nationally certified radon mitigation contractors in Wisconsin that can install systems to dismiss the gas.
