Lakeshore Technical College has been welcoming a furry friend to campus each Monday.
From 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. every week, the black Lab therapy dog named Elliot visits campus.
The pup belongs to Dr. Julie Konik, a psychology instructor at the college, and her wife, Christine.
Konik says the idea to bring a dog to campus for therapy purposes came to her in the spring of 2021.
After presenting other college policies on pet therapy and scientific data on how dogs can improve student mental health to the Lakeshore President, Dr. Paul Carlsen, the idea was well received and approved.
Now, Konik exclaims that the visits are helping regular visitors “build relationships, something wonderful that is lasting beyond the Monday visits.”
