Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader says Governor Tony Evers vision doesn’t align with the state’s financial picture.
9th District Senator Devin LeMahieu says in response to the State of the State address that state spending is at an all-time high and Republican legislation is the way to fix it.
He says the bi-annual budget has already invested a lot in the state with more money going toward expanding affordable housing and keeping the Milwaukee Brewers in Wisconsin.
There is still a $4 million budget surplus, and it should not go toward the government.
“The surplus should be returned back to the hardworking taxpayers who have given their state government more of their money then is necessary,” he said. “The legislature released a plan today (January 24th) that would cut taxes for the middle class.”
He says since being reelected, LeMahieu says Evers has rebuked the tax cut and raised taxes in the state.
While Democrats believe a surplus means spending, Republicans have a different version.
“We stand for limited government, low taxes, safe communities, and a safe economy,” he explained. “A strong surplus is an opportunity to advance those goals.”
He finished his response to the State of the State, saying with principal leadership, Wisconsin’s best days remain ahead.
