It was another successful year of Christmas fundraising for the Salvation Army Manitowoc County.
Captain Jenny Moffit said on WOMT’s Be My Guest that $123,477.11 was raised, but with a $30,000 match, it brought the final total to $153,477.11.
Moffit says the goal of the Salvation Army was to raise $175,000.
“But it’s not short enough that we are going to have to cut programs or anything like that,” she explained. “But if people still want to give, you can certainly still pop a check in the mail, and it will still stay here and still go toward year-round programing.”
Moffit says while the fundraising goal wasn’t reached, the community is very generous and dedicated to the mission.
381 volunteers give time at a kettle, which is 100 more than last year.
“They gave over 2500 hours of bell-ringing time, voluntarily to that kettle,” she described. “Which is the reason why the numbers were as high as they were.”
She says even the warmer weather helped with people ringing outside.
This past year, the organization was also able to help almost 400 families through the Toys for Tots and Adopt a Family Programs.
That includes 1,290 children who were able to have a present at Christmas.
Moffit thanked everyone for volunteering and said the Salvation Army couldn’t have done what they did this past year without everyone involved.
