The driver in a vehicle pursuit is dead after an officer-involved shooting.
Last Friday (February 2nd), North Fond du Lac Police pulled over a vehicle around 9:40 pm.
The vehicle then fled the traffic stop, leading to a pursuit. Spike strips were deployed at Interstate 41 and County Highway Z, approximately one-half mile into Winnebago County, causing the vehicle to stop.
The driver and sole occupant called 911 and reported that they had a gun, and when they exited the vehicle and went toward law enforcement, a North Fond du Lac police officer fired their weapon, hitting the driver.
Lifesaving measures were carried out, but the driver ended up dying.
No officers were injured, and the officer who fired their gun was wearing a body cam.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident with help from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, DCI Crime Response Specialists, and members of the DCI Digital Evidence Unit.
