The technical education side of Mishicot High School was highlighted during a visit from Wisconsin’s state superintendent.
Dr. Jill Underly visited Mishicot yesterday and got a tour of several classrooms, including discussions with students doing horticulture, glass printing, and woodworking.
She also learned about the school’s academic comprehension plan for students, their floral arranging business through the FFA, and their morning coffee business called “Mishicup”.
Assistant Principal Sara Greenwood and Student Julie Koeppl gave the tour and helped Underly talk to different students.
Several students finished the tour talking about what they’ve done and learned through these tech ed and after school activities.
Student Vanessa Paquette told the State Superintendent, “Through FFA floral the more I started to get involved in not just floral but through in program in general I started to find out like, I can do this, and I can use this and apply this to my life and accelerate my goals for myself.”
Ben Backus says, “It’s a lot of being creative and being especially organized as I find the best opportunities to teach other people.”
Underly says her favorite part of the visit was being with the students and seeing their excitement for what they wanted to do.
She says she also learned a lot.
“The different opportunities that our school districts that are able to provide kids just helps them become more familiar with the different pathways and then also find their passion a lot sooner, and to me that’s what it’s all about,” she exclaimed.
The high school is celebrating the month of February as the month dedicated to Career and Technical Education.
Underly had also visited Grafton, Germantown, and New Berlin schools previously.
