The Manitowoc United hockey team held their final home game of the season Saturday night.
In a night to honor the Manitowoc players’ parents, the visiting Green Bay United Gryphons came out with a 4-3 win in a shootout.
Manitowoc would lead off the scoring when Reed Neuser would get a breakaway while his team was shorthanded and would bury the shot.
Myles De Kok would make it a two-goal lead when he tickled the twine with assists from Peter Cigler and Benson Dickrell.
Then, the penalties started piling up. Manitowoc would commit four penalties in the second frame and allowed two powerplay goals in the process.
United would enter the break with a one-goal lead, however, as Dickrell blocked a shot, again on a penalty kill, and scored on a breakaway with just 12 seconds left in the period.
The third period was a highlight reel maker for Manitowoc goalie Dan Karlin, as he made several key saves to keep the lead intact.
However, with just 37 seconds left, the Gryphons would score to tie it up.
After a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime, the game was still tied, so it went to a shootout.
Ethan Christensen would put the pressure on with a goal, but Green Bay would respond and eventually take the win.
Karlin would end the night with 40 saves in regulation and overtime and would save 5 of the six shootout attempts by the Gryphons.
The loss drops United to 6-12-1 on the season, with their final game scheduled for February 24th in Madison.
