A 23-year-old Manitowoc man, accused of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of Pokémon cards from a local business, appeared in court for a bail hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Bail was set at $1,000 recognizance for Calvin A. Kapitz, who has been officially charged with Felony Retail theft.
Police went to the Meijer store on South Rapids Road Tuesday morning to view security camera footage from last Thursday (February 8th).
It revealed Kapitz allegedly taking bar codes off Kool-Aid packets and taping them over twelve packs of Pokémon cards and two packages of diapers.
A security alarm went off as Kapitz checked out, but an employee inadvertently canceled it, and he was able to leave the store without incident.
Police eventually located Kapitz at his Manitowoc residence on Buffalo Street and took him into custody.
The lone condition of bail is that Kapitz has “no contact” with The Manitowoc Meijer store, and he’s due back in court for an initial appearance on March 4th.
