An Eastern Wisconsin Senator’s bill that helps stop deep-fake pornography has made its way through the Wisconsin Senate.
De Pere State Senator Andre Jacque says this legislation would strengthen and modernize Wisconsin law by making it a felony to create, store, reproduce, and disseminate sexually explicit deep fakes without the consent of the person who is being depicted.
Current law prohibits the non-consensual creation and dissemination of representations depicting nudity but doesn’t directly address the unauthorized creation of sexually explicit images.
The updated law would make it a felony to hack, intercept, or otherwise steal sexually explicit images from someone’s phone or other digital devices.
The bill now needs to pass through the Wisconsin Assembly before it could be signed by Governor Tony Evers.
