A single-vehicle crash has led to a person’s death.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office was called Tuesday (February 20th) at around 10:26 am in the Kvitek and Zander Roads Township of Cooperstown and found a 2008 Saturn Vue fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was put out, a badly burned body was located inside the vehicle and was the only occupant.
The Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office is currently working on obtaining the identification of the deceased subject.
Early investigations show the car was traveling on south Kvitek Rd. when it left the roadway and entered a west ditch.
The vehicle entered Devil’s River and overturned onto the passenger side when it caught fire.
The sheriff’s department says this continues to be an active investigation, and no additional information is being released.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig did thank multiple agencies that helped, including Maribel First Responders, Maribel Fire Department, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, County Rescue, Wisconsin State Patrol, the coroner’s office, and Hi-Way 42 garage.
