The Wisconsin DNR reminds anyone who wants to go hunting for the first time to take a hunting education course.
Anyone born after 1973 must have a hunter education certificate to purchase a hunting license.
The multi-day in-person traditional course teaches student hunters responsibilities and safety through lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, practical exercises, and individual study.
You’ll have to take a multiple-choice exam and complete a hands-on, skills-based assessment found in the printed student manual used when learning in the class.
It will cost about $10 per student, and the class is taught at a sixth-grade level. Students will later attend a multi-day, in-person course where students learn about hunter responsibility and safety through lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, and practical exercises.
There is an option for an online version, but it requires participating in two courses, including one that’s interactive, with extra costs to pay for the programs.
