The spring sports season is upon us, and Track and Field at Mishicot High School is up and running.
We recently spoke with head coach Ryan Schroder about some of his goals for this spring and favorite moments from past seasons.
Every team has its strengths, and for Mishicot, one event stood out from the rest.
“Putting a huge emphasis on our relays is how we create that team atmosphere,” he explained. “I try to you know really say that it’s a real big honor to be a part of those relays and those people who aren’t on those A team relays its getting them into other relays other times throughout the year and that’s kind of like our essential focus I would say of our program”.
Many athletes compete in multiple sports throughout the school year.
However, track and field is a hub for all athletes when it comes to skill sets used in other sports.
“We’re the only sport that has so much going on at once. Our sport is the basis of every other sport,” Schroder said. “Every other sport, you’ve got to be fast, got to be athletic, got to be able to jump, you have to do those things really well to be successful in track and field.”
As a coach, watching an athlete succeed is always heartwarming.
For Coach Shroder, it is no different.
“Seeing the excitement at sectionals when they do qualify and if it’s a relay team, you got a kid who’s way over at one end at the track and somebody else at the other end of the track, and they’re sprinting almost event faster then what they were just running in the race at each other,” Schroder said. “The smiles on their faces when they qualify for the state meet it’s pretty special”.
Mishicot is scheduled to host a meet today (April 2nd).
