Merrill L. Buck, age 96, a Manitowoc resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 1, 2024 at Angelus Senior Living, Manitowoc.
Merrill was born on May 6, 1927 in Manitowoc, son of the late Erwin and Olga (Braun) Buck. He attended First German Lutheran School and then Lincoln High School, graduating in 1945 from Mishicot High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific where he was stationed on Guam to the end of WWII. On November 14, 1953 he married Joan Anhalt at St. Boniface Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2022. Merrill was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding and Manitowoc Engineering for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law; Steve (Sue) Buck, Franklin, Tim (Kathy) Buck, Oakdale, MN, Perry Buck, New Berlin, Rob (Melissa) Buck, Manitowoc, one daughter and son-in-law; Cheryl (Keith) Redding, Oconomowoc, ten grandchildren; Mara (Brad) Magner, Rachael (Ryan) Oxton, Chad (Liz) Redding, Maddie (Nick) Stock, Sydney Buck, Abbey Buck, Ashley Buck, Noah Buck, Aiden Buck, Ashton Buck, seven great grandchildren; Cade Magner, Brynn Magner, Cole Magner, Sawyer Oxton, Ian Redding, Noah Redding and Pierce Stock, two sisters and one brother-in-law; Luann (Jay) Butler, Racine and Nola Guex, Mishicot, one brother; John Buck, Richland, WA. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Merrill was also preceded in death by; one sister; Jean Buck, stepfather and stepmother; Edward Guex and Helen Buck.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM on Friday April 5, 2024 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday April 5, 2024 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Stephen Melso. Military rites will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 731. Entombment of the cremated remains will be held at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum at a later time.
