Monday night’s Two Rivers City Council agenda included a public hearing on a proposed zoning ordinance amendment that would allow for the placement of garages in front-yard setback areas.
City Manager Greg Buckley says would apply to residential lots greater than 5 acres, where the house is at least 500 yards from street-frontage.
“It did arise out of a particular circumstance. An individual applied for and was denied a zoning variance for such an installation,” he explained. “The Plan Commission recommended this as a change to the ordinance to allow garages in designated front yard areas in very limited circumstances.”
Buckley says they also discussed “on a very limited basis” allowing placement on street-side yards, provided the property owner is on a corner lot.
He did note, “The Council did table that given some concerns from neighbors of the one property that it had sought a zoning variance in.”
The Council plans to meet in the field next Monday (April 22nd) at 5:30, prior to the regular work session meeting at 6 p.m. to get a look at the case at hand.
Buckley says that should be legally posted soon.
