Shane Evans is the new leader of The Manitowoc Lincoln Boys’ Basketball program.
He caps a five-year progression of coaching Ships teams.
Evans was the freshman and JV Boys’ Head Coach before being named an assistant under Thadd Cornell, who resigned in March after seven seasons for family reasons. He tells Seehafer Sports,
” I’ve been at Manitowoc Lincoln for the last five years, and it’s really reassuring that I won’t be leaving. I did not want to leave Lincon High School. I saw an opportunity, and I’m excited to get started.”
Evans joined the program in August 2019 when he was hired as a special education teacher and general education behavioral specialist.
He played basketball for and served as team captain at Silver Lake College, where he served as a college readiness 21 coach, counseling high school students about college preparation and life skills and facilitating team-building activities.
Evans wants the foundation to be based on a strong youth program, adding his teams will be taught to force the pace of play.
“I am very much a big ball screen guy, and I’m all about gaining an advantage by covering and scrambling and getting up and down the floor by pushing the ball.”
Evans adds he’ll be leaning on returning seniors Eddie Bolchen and Brayden Steinbecker to lead both on and off the court and that he’s excited about a great group of younger players ready to make their mark in Lincoln basketball.
Regardless of win-loss year one, Evans was asked what his top priority is for 2024-25.
“I want my guys to have a good year. I want them to be excited. When we look back, I want them to be proud of what we accomplished, have no regrets, and that we competed every night.”
Evans’s hiring is official and pending approval by the Board of Education.
