The story behind one of the most prolific scorers in Wisconsin High School Basketball history will be featured on WOMT Sports Talk on Monday night at The Big Apple in Rockwood.
Brett Christopherson, author of Over and Back-Mickey Crowe, The Strange and Troubled Life of a Wisconsin High School Basketball Legend, will be live on location to talk about the book and more.
When he graduated from JFK St. Nazianz Prep in 1975, Crowe had scored 2,724 points, which topped the state’s all-time scoring list at the time.
He scored 1,001 of those points his senior season alone, leading the nation in scoring at 41.7 points per game. Then it all unraveled shortly afterward.
Crowe turned to drugs and alcohol, which he admitted became his closest friends.
He drew national notoriety in 1980 when he was interviewed by the national media in Washington D.C. as he was literally yards away from bullets fired at and attended for President Ronald Reagan.
Mental Illness and drug use plagued Crowe for years, but he now has, in his words, “risen and found peace.”
He has come out of self-seclusion to tell his story, hopeful that what he went through can help others.
You can hear Sports Talk Monday beginning at 5:30 on 107.9 WOMT and womtradio.com.
