The Mishicot Indians improved to 27 and 0 after defeating The Kewaunee Storm 4 to nothing in a WIAA Division Three Girls Softball Regional Final played in Mishicot Thursday afternoon.
It’s the Indians’ fourth consecutive regional championship and their fifth in the last six years.
Mishicot scored all four of their runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Kiran Sanford and a two-run triple by Kalein Adair.
Head Coach Dawn Shimek says their m-o all year has been putting pressure on the opposition from the jump.
“We tend to score a lot of runs in the first inning. That makes us comfortable. I must give Kewaunee a lot of credit. We hit a lot of hard balls, but they stood strong and made some terrific defensive plays.”
In fact, The Indians would not score the rest of the game as Kewaunee pitcher Jenna Rohr settled down and gave her team a chance to win.
But Junior Kiran Sanford was better, in fact, nearly perfect.
She had a perfect game until The Storm picked up a two-out single in the seventh and got the next hitter to fly out to end the game. Shimek tells Seehafer Sports—
“We are excited that we won the regional championship, but we still have four games to play to achieve our ultimate goal, and that’s winning a state championship.”
Their next game will be Tuesday afternoon in Mishicot as they’ll host either Valders or New Holstein in a Division Three Sectional Semifinal Tuesday afternoon.
The Vikings and Huskies were rained out Thursday and will play Friday afternoon in New Holstein.
