The Manitowoc Lincoln Boys Tennis duo of Ayden Knuth and Cohen Newberg have qualified for next week’s WIAA State Boys Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison.
The Ships duo defeated Dawson Peterson and Killian McNulty of West Bend East 6-1,6-0 in their first match at The Division One Sectional meet held Thursday at The Fox Cities Racquet Club, hosted by Oshkosh North High School to qualify.
They then knocked off Ryan Jorgeson and Yosef Desell of Oshkosh West 6-4,6-3 to advance to the championship match, where they lost to Owen Pate and Jaren Baltus of Plymouth 7-5,6-4.
It was Ayden and Cohen’s first loss in 30 matches this season.
Seeding is expected to take place this weekend, and the state tournament will be held May 30th through June 1st at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the UW-Madison campus.
