There will be a challenger to Assemblyman Paul Tittl’s seat in the August primary.
Republican Candidate Dave Wage held his first listening session at Time Out Bar and Grill on Manitowoc’s northside with a small group of voters.
They talked about several topics like abortion, illegal immigration, and even marijuana legalization.
Wage grew up in Manitowoc and has lived in the city most of his life.
He’s run two businesses and has recently sold his company, Formrite, to continue to pursue his passion to try and give back to the community by running for the state assembly.
Wage says the biggest issue he wants to work on if elected is education.
“First of all, we’re failing,” he says. “We have to admit we’re failing and I’m not blaming anybody, it think the teachers are trying hard, I think the administrators are trying hard. This isn’t something to blame, it’s just trying to figure out how can we do it better. We’re just not doing it right right now. Manitowoc School District is in the bottom 5% according to state testing. Two Rivers is 3rd from the bottom (in the entire state).”
He also says it’s good to bring in a fresh perspective saying of Rep. Tittl, “He’s been in office for over a decade.”
The response from the community has been good so far as he’s been going door to door and introducing himself as a candidate.
When asked why someone should vote for you, he says he’s been building a resume he’s proud of which includes being in the community.
“I’ve been on pretty much every volunteer board and non-profit committee in Manitowoc County,” he notes. “I’m on the Ascend Board, I’m on the Capitol Civic Center board, I’m on the Boys and Girls Club Board, and I’ve been off and on the Chamber of Commerce board for over 20 years. I think my resume speaks for itself.”
He continues saying he doesn’t want to get sucked into a party’s ways, even though he’s running as a Republican and is still fiscally conservative.
We’ve reached out to Tittl’s office to ask why he’s running for another term.
