The warden of the Waupun prison, Randall Hepp, has resigned immediately, as reported by the Wisconsin State Journal.
Hepp announced his resignation via email to the prison staff.
The prison is currently grappling with several issues, including a lengthy lockdown and a federal investigation.
Although there are no indications that Hepp is facing any charges, the investigation has led to the resignation or dismissal of several other staff members.
Waupun prison has been struggling with a shortage of guards for years, and four inmates have died since June of last year.
