The Manitowoc Police Department has received a grant for speed enforcement.
The $65,000 grant from the Wisconsin DOT Bureau of Transportation Safety will help crackdown on speeding.
Manitowoc Police has been working with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and Two Rivers Police and all three departments will receive a portion of the money which will be used to pay for officers’ overtime from May to September of this year as well as actively enforce speeding and other traffic violations.
Manitowoc Police remind residents that it’s important to follow posted speed limits and that their goal is not to write more speeding tickets.
However, if voluntary compliance fails, they won’t hesitate to enforce speed limits and other traffic laws.
In 2023, speed was a factor in 223 crashes around Manitowoc County with 84 people being injured.
