An Eastern Wisconsin Congressman has introduced the Biodiversity Oversight Scaled-back And Fully Erased Act or BIOSAFE Act for short.
Wisconsin’s 6th District Congressman, Glenn Grothman, with fellow Congressman Tom Tiffany, co-led the bill.
This bill aims to prevent state and local wildlife conservationists from foregoing final authority on conservation decisions.
The BIOSAFE bill comes in response to proposed updates to the biological integrity, diversity, and environmental health rule to combat the increasing threat of climate change.
The update brings changes to the decision-making process and places the final policy choices in the hands of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Grothman fears that this update will limit hunting and fishing opportunities for Wisconsinites.
The bill is supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the Council to Advance Hunting and Shooting Sports.
The BIOSAFE Act would require the Secretary of the Interior to withdraw the proposed biodiversity rule updates.
