The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department will have a role in the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says some members of the department will go to Milwaukee during the convention in July for security purposes.
“We’ll be sending between six to eight staff members every day down for the event,” he explained. “It’s basically our swat team, so we’ll standby down there should anything bad happen to help back up the Milwaukee Police Department.”
Hartwig says the Milwaukee PD put out a request for law enforcement to go to RNC to keep the peace.
He adds that Manitowoc County Sheriff’s are happy to help, and the trip is reimbursed.
Officers from around Wisconsin, Virginia, North Dakota, and other states will also send officers to the Republican National Convention.
The convention gets underway July 15th through the 18th in downtown Milwaukee.
