State championship games for the WIAA Girls Soccer Tournament have been set in all four divisions.
Last night in the state semifinals in Division 1 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, a very quiet game between Kimberly and Waunakee, but it was one goal by Kimberly’s Senah Hanes in the 10th minute that gave the Papermakers a trip to the state final in the 1-0 win over the Warriors.
Kimberly goalie Lauren Heckert had a busy night, making 8 saves in the game. Warriors’ goalie Malia Zillman only made 3 saves but did allow the one goal.
The Papermakers will face off against Muskego for a gold ball after the Warriors rolled past Brookfield East 5-2.
Muskego’s Norah Augustine started off the night with an unassisted goal 9:35 into the first period before Taylor Collins and Maggie Mattek added two more goals to take a 3-0 before halftime for the Warriors.
Brookfield East would come out swinging in the second half, with Emily Miner getting in a goal for the Spartans before Muskego scored again.
Each team scored one more goal before time expired.
In Division 2, The Oregon Panthers girls soccer team cruises past The River Falls Wildcats with a 3-0 win.
A goal in the 17th minute from Maya Maloney got the Panthers going but it wasn’t until the two more goals passed the 70th minute helped finish the game for Oregon.
Katelyn Stubebaker scored in the 75th minute, while Resse Richardson got a goal in the 78th minute.
River Falls goalie Neva Espanet made 9 other saves during the game for the Wildcats with Olivia Doerre getting two shots on goal.
The Oregon Panthers will try to win a state championship today when they face Whitefish Bay who only needed one goal to top Cedarburg 1-0.
That lone goal came from Whitefish Bay’s Elyse Leinweber, who got a shot in the net in the 46th minute off the frame of the goal.
Cedarburg goalie Mia Hurd only had 3 other saves on the day, while Audyn Kreger for Whitefish Bay only saved the ball 4 times during the game.
State championship games start this morning at 11:30 a.m. with Division 4, as #1 Cedar Grove-Belgium faces off against #3 The Prairie School, which ended Kiel’s great season on Thursday.
The Division 3 game will see #1 Plymouth taking on #3 Catholic Memorial at 1 p.m.
Then, the Division 2 final will be between #1 Oregon and #3 Whitefish Bay at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Division 1 game between #4 Kimberly and #2 Muskego.
