Dorothy B. Grotegut, age 83, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at her residence.
Dorothy was born on January 2, 1941 to the late Isidore and Lorena Meyer. Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. On October 22, 1960 she married Ival Grotegut, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2021. Dorothy was a mother of 8 children, homemaker, and owner of Grotegut Dairy Farm. She enjoyed playing games, puzzles, and loved having the grandkids over to spend the night. Throughout the years Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Homemakers Club where she was a member for over 50 years, her card clubs, and prayer chain. Dorothy had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and was a practical joker.
Dorothy is survived by her seven children: Tom (Brenda) Grotegut, Trenton, Florida, daughter-in-law: Kim Grotegut, Newton, Nancy (Mark) Mueller Greenleaf, Debbie (Mark) Heinzen, Newton, Faye (Jim Diny) Riesterer, Newton, Gail (Troy) Temme, Sturgeon Bay, Doug (Jean) Grotegut, Manitowoc, and Greg (Bobbi) Grotegut, Newton; 23 grandchildren: Ryan (Maddie), Nicholas (Aurora), Ashley (Gabe), Eric (Rosario), Chris, Alyssa (special friend Justin), Adam (Kim), Amanda (Jacob), Brandon (Chelsea), Bryanna (Alex), Cameron (special friend Jamie), Bryce (Mariah), Preston, Paige (special friend Owen), Dustin, Dayna, Dilyn (Mitchell), Brooke, Nicole, Kip, Gavin, Ella, and Olivia; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Delores Boeckman, twin brother Donald (Sharon) Meyer, Clementine Steinhardt, Charlie (Judy) Meyer, Paul Meyer, Virgina Freeze; sisters-in-law: Gloria Meyer and Ethel Meyer; as well as other relatives and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband: Ival Grotegut; son: David; son-in-law: Randy Riesterer; parents: Isidore and Lorena Meyer; in-laws: Markus and Adela; siblings: Victor Meyer, Harold Meyer, Theresa (Earl Holschbach, LeRoy Waack) Waack, Norman (Rita) Meyer, Leonard (Marge) Meyer, Luella (Allen) Mahloch; 3 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law: Rich Freeze, Robert Boeckman, Jack Steinhardt, and Kathy Meyer.
A Funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. David Beaudry. Following the Mass, Dorothy will be laid to rest at the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Newton. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 pm.
