There have been many changes made by the Department of Natural Resources regarding fishing regulations.
Changes have been made to the number, size, and species of fish anglers are allowed to keep locally and state-wide.
Isaac Hackett, a local DNR Warden, joined WOMT’s Be My Guest program to speak on the matter and explained a change to all inland waters in Wisconsin.
“The statewide walleye regulation changed to three, which was probably a big change for a lot of folks. Whereas previously, it was a little bit more of a liberal bag limit.”
Locally in Manitowoc County, three changes have been made, all on Wilke Lake.
One largemouth and smallmouth bass may be kept but must be at least 18 inches.
Two northern pike of any length may be kept, excluding fish 25 to 35 inches.
For walleye, any fish kept must be at least 18 inches. In Oconto County, new regulations for Rost and Westcott Lakes now allow for any length bass to be kept with a limit of five.
Anglers can see all of the DNR’s new fishing regulations on their website.
