A grandfather drowned while attempting to rescue his grandchildren from Red Cedar Lake in Barron County.
The incident happened on Saturday near the Mikana Dam.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 71-year-old man entered the water to save his two grandchildren, who were fishing and swimming at the time.
Despite the children wearing life jackets, the situation turned dire.
Emergency crews had to close the dam to recover the man’s body.
