Manitowoc Aluminum Kitch-mas, which does Evergleams on Eighth in the winter, is hosting a first-ever summer event.
Mid-Mod Manitowoc will be a summer party for collectors of aluminum trees and other aluminum items manufactured in Manitowoc during the 20th century.
Manitowoc Aluminum Kitch-mas President Barb Bundy Jost explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that the summer celebration started two years ago when a couple from South Dakota came and took a walking tour to see the Evergleams in the middle of winter.
“That poor husband, I mean, he looked at us and said, ‘Can you do this in a warmer time of year? It’s freezing here!’,” she recalled. “And, we thought, well, Christmas in July. Let’s pick a weekend and have a little convention.”
The event includes seminars from a Mirro property collector to a history professor who will talk about the history of aluminum Christmas tree making in Manitowoc.
That’s part of the convention happening from Thursday through Sunday at the Inn on Maritime Bay.
Dr. Evergleam will also be at Mid Mod Manitowoc to fix aluminum trees.
The public is invited this Friday (July 12th) for food trucks and a classic car show. Saturday (July 13th), the Aluminum Tree Show takes place from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m., while the vintage vendor market also opens at 9:00.
