The project to revitalize the Sheboygan waterfront is being carried out to offset millions in debt.
The planning process for the lakefront has reached its halfway point, revealing that the marina is nearly $6 million in debt.
The debt, which has increased by nearly $1 million over the last two years, is largely due to the marina’s operations costing more than its yearly revenue in five of the last six years.
This is only worsened when considering expenditures outside of operations such as building improvements and the winterization of the marina.
The revitalization project aims to change this debt increase by introducing more community gathering and recreation spots, lakefront amenities, and much more.
Two major aspects of the project include a pedestrian bridge crossing over Broughton Drive and a natural amphitheater at Rotary Park.
While the plans are not set in stone yet, the community input has offered an insight into what the Sheboygan Marina and lakefront could look like in the future.
